So, this is the first time that I have had a chance to sit and write something in relation to Coffee with SteveJones. First off, I am all trained up and will be working with my first client soon and that is really exciting, so I feel like I am ready to take on this new project.
Since this is my first job in the field that I graduated from, I am thinking about the future. I feel that since I am entering this new chapter of my life that I would do something different. One thing is to get a haircut.
I have had long hair for the past 10 years. I initially started growing it out after I saw a picture of my dad at 22 and then at 23, now this was in the 70's so he had a big head of moppy hair in the first and a big patch of skin where his hair used to be. I figured I was doomed.
I used to shave my head. I even Bic'd it a few times during the summer. don't get it wrong, I do love my long hair. I really like it when the ladies play with it, stroking it, and even pulling it. ;)
I have heard of this term "The Get Laid Haircut." This is essentially a hair cut that when people first see it, their panties get wet pants get tight. I read a blog post in Esquire's Style Blog that claims it doesn't exists; that people actually look better with a new haircut, simple as that. Well, I'll raise you one more: Psychology.
Now see what happens, is that you get a new look and you get a new sense of self-esteem. I have seen it numerous time on What Not To Wear (Yes, I like this show, sad to see it go). Damn near every woman on the show gets a new boost of self-esteem by this new hair style. And it is within this newly found self-confidence that potential suitors pick up on and become attracted to. The stylist will frame the face aesthetically, a feature "most important in terms of first impressions," (Diller, 2012).
So with this on my mind, I have decided to get a hair cut as a way to regulate first impressions, to increase my self-esteem, and fit a certain style change. I have noticed a change in my personal style over the last few months. Gone are the jeans and sneakers (Though the t-shirts are still around, just not worn regularly, more on this later) and in comes the dress shoes, slacks, and collared shirts; a more refined, chic look that I enjoy.
What I want to do is donate my hair to Locks of Love. I also want to document this process. I know a few hair stylists that I want to talk to and get their ideas about hair makeovers and the "Get Laid Haircut" idea. So A video will be in the works. Something that I haven't done in a long time.
And of course coffee will be involved.
